Employer: Church of the Apostles/Apostles Campus Church
Closes: When position is filled
Church of the Apostles is a church in the Anglican tradition that currently consists of two congregations, the Rector’s congregation in western Fairfax, VA, and the Campus Church congregation on the campus at George Mason University (central Fairfax). Both congregations would identify as being “three streams”—evangelical, liturgical and charismatic—though many of our leaders are stronger in one or two of these and often are not from Anglican backgrounds. Both congregations are a short distance from the DC metro and within commuting distance from Washington, DC. During the academic schoolyear, we spend most Sundays worshiping in our respective communities, and we join together in worship over the major university breaks and on major holidays like Christmas and Easter. Though we are one church, the communities of each congregation are rather distinct in both culture and worship styles. We are a church that grows by using the East African Revival model of church planting—by forming multiple worshiping communities throughout our area which are encouraged to grow into unique congregations. As a whole, we are groups of people who worship together, pray together, serve together, and live life together. We believe that church is community, called out into the wider community with Christ’s love. It’s more than just a place to show up on a Sunday; it happens in the messiness of real life. When people are connecting to God and experiencing what it means to be loved, forgiven, healed, and empowered by Jesus Christ through the Holy Spirit, church is happening. Above all, church is a foretaste of God’s Kingdom—a day when all that is broken will be healed, all that is incomplete will be made whole, and all that is old will be made new. We are broken people being restored by grace and living God’s story. We invite you to join us in this work. The Associate Pastor will be part of the pastoral leadership team at Apostles and the Lead Pastor at the Apostles Campus Church. This position involves leading the pastoral team of the Campus Church congregation (including staff, interns and volunteers), as well as serving as a pastoral bridge between both congregations by overseeing ministry to youth (middle and high school students, 7-12th) for both congregations.
