Bishop Royal Grote elected Presiding Bishop of the Reformed Episcopal Church

Prior to his election on June 11, 2014, he served as both the Chancellor and a Lecturer in Dogmatic Theology at Cranmer Theological House in Houston, TX.

Bishop Grote succeeds the Most Rev. Leonard W. Riches, who served as Presiding Bishop for the Reformed Episcopal Church from 1996 to 2014.

Bishop Grote was born in 1946, and grew up in Hatboro-Horsham, PA. He attended the Reformed Episcopal Seminary in Philadelphia, PA, and was ordained in 1975. He served in parishes in Warminster, PA, and New Providence, NJ, before being elected Assistant Bishop of the Diocese of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic in the Reformed Episcopal Church in 1984.

In 1991, he became the Missionary Bishop with Special Jurisdiction for church planting in the central and western United States. In 1996 he became Bishop of the Diocese of Mid-America, based in Katy, TX.

Bishop Grote has served as President of the Reformed Episcopal Church Board of Foreign Missions and as President of the Board of Pensions and Relief. His installation as Presiding Bishop is available for viewing here.
