The Dean of the Province
The Dean of the Province is appointed by the Archbishop in consultation with the College of Bishops. Bishop Julian Dobbs was initially appointed by Archbishop Wood to serve as Dean of Provincial Affairs, however, when long-standing Dean of the Province, Bishop Ray Sutton, resigned as Dean on Nov 15, 2025, the College of Bishops approved Bishop Dobbs’s appointment to this role.
The Dean of the Province is a canonically defined role that is authorized to assume the responsibilities of the Archbishop in the event that the Archbishop is unable to serve.
Dean of The Province
The Right Reverend Julian Mark Dobbs serves as the Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of the Living Word, where he oversees the clergy, congregations, church plants, chaplaincies, and ministries entrusted to his care. In addition to his diocesan responsibilities, he serves as the Dean of the Province, assisting in the effective administration, governance, and mission of the Anglican Church in North America.
Ordained in 1991, Bishop Julian planted three congregations and served as rector of the fastest growing Anglican church in New Zealand, where his pastoral leadership, preaching ministry, and evangelistic zeal helped shape a vibrant and missionally focused parish. He has been part of the Anglican Church in North America since its founding in 2009, actively supporting and shaping the Province’s early development and mission. He was elected and consecrated as a bishop by the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in September 2011 and since that time has served as a member of the ACNA College of Bishops.
Bishop Julian is passionate about the saving power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and is committed to empowering congregations, supporting clergy, transforming injustice, inspiring local and global mission, and planting faithful, biblically grounded churches. His ministry is marked by a deep concern for gospel clarity, classical Anglican orthodoxy, and the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom in North America and throughout the world.
He is recognized as a leader in global Anglican realignment, his advocacy for persecuted believers, and his dedication to raising up the next generation of pastors, evangelists, and missionaries. Whether preaching, teaching, or providing pastoral oversight, Bishop Julian seeks to magnify the Lord Jesus Christ, shepherd the flock of God with integrity, and encourage the Church to proclaim the Gospel with boldness and compassion.
