It is with both sorrow and the sure and certain hope of the resurrection that the Anglican Church announces the death of the Right Reverend William (“Bill”) Ilgenfritz, the first bishop consecrated in the Anglican Church in North America and the founding Bishop of the Missionary Diocese of All Saints.
Bishop Ilgenfritz will be remembered as a faithful shepherd whose life and ministry were marked by steadfast conviction, humble service, and unwavering devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. He carried out both the public responsibilities and the quiet, often unseen duties of the episcopate with equal diligence. Faithful to the vows he made, faithful to the people entrusted to his care, and faithful over many years to the Lord who called him, Bishop Ilgenfritz leaves behind a lasting legacy of godly leadership and sacrificial ministry.
Even as the Church grieves, it gives thanks for Bishop Ilgenfritz’s faithful witness and rejoices in the Christian hope that those who die in Christ shall live with Him forever. His earthly race is finished, his faith has been kept, and he now rests in the presence of the Savior whom he loved and served.
