Born on June 22, 1926, in Gloucester, England, Dr. Packer received his Bachelor of Arts (1948), Master of Arts (1954), and Doctor of Philosophy (1954) from Corpus Christi College at Oxford University. He studied theology at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and was ordained deacon (1952) and priest (1953).
Dr. Packer first book, Fundamentalism and the Word of God, was published in 1958. His best-known work, Knowing God, was published in 1973. Combined, his books have sold over three million copies. He is the founder of the International Council on Biblical Inerrancy (ICBI) and was appointed the first Sangwoo Youtong Chee Professor of Theology at Regent College, Vancouver, BC, and was named the Regent College Board of Governors’ Professor of Theology in 1996.
In addition, Dr. Packer served as General Editor of the English Standard Version (ESV) of the Bible and as Theological Editor of the ESV Study Bible.
