At Provincial Council 2025, delegates approved a new officer of the Province: Vice-Chancellor for Safeguarding. This role is pro bono, and appointed by the Archbishop. The Vice-Chancellor for Safeguarding serves as a senior advisor to the Province on matters related to the protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults. This role supports the Church’s commitment to cultivating safe and accountable environments for ministry and provides legal and policy expertise in areas related to abuse prevention, response, and training. The Vice-Chancellor for Safeguarding closely works with the Director of Safeguarding and Canonical Affairs and the Chancellor, as well as with other Vice-Chancellors and legal support, the Executive Director, and the Archbishop.

Ms. Jeannie Rose Barksdale will be the first Vice-Chancellor for Safeguarding. Ms. Barksdale attends Church of the Advent in the Diocese of Christ Our Hope. She attended Stanford University, and earned her law degree from NYU. She worked for International Justice Mission, where she served as General Counsel from 2021-2024 and built critical operational legal functions, including as misconduct prevention. She has extensive experience working with mission-driven organizations and developing ethical infrastructures.
