Employer: Tree of Life Anglican Church (South Bend, IN)
Closes: When position is filled
Due to the legal nature of this work, this position requires a two year commitment.
The Director of the Tree of Life Immigration Legal-Aid Clinic is responsible for all aspects of running the clinic. These responsibilities include legally assisting clients, recruiting and mentoring volunteers, fundraising, creating a hospitable environment for clients and overseeing publicity/networking. The director should also recruit and maintain an advisory board for the clinic. The person in this position is expected to delegate much of the work of the immigration clinic to volunteers.
Because Tree of Life Anglican Church is first and foremost a Christian ministry, the Director of our Legal Aid Clinic will also help foster relationships and interactions that allow clients and others in the community to experience the reconciling love of Jesus Christ, both in word and action. The clinic director will be an active member of Tree of Life Anglican Church and affirm its mission.
The director is expected to keep regular clinic hours, including at least two regular walk-in clinic nights per month. He or she can work together with the Pastor of Tree of Life to determine an appropriate number of clinic hours per-week. The current director is paid by the hour and works 10-15 hours per week. However, this position has the potential to become a 20-30 hour per week position.
The director must keep careful legal records of all immigration law activities at Tree of Life.
The director must be a college graduate.
He or she must either be BIA certified to legally assist immigrants (full or partial), be willing to obtain such certification, or be a lawyer (or law student). We are willing to help applicants who need to go through the accreditation process.
The Pastor of Tree of Life Anglican Church, currently Rev. Heather Gormley, is the primary supervisor of the Director of the Immigration Legal Aid Clinic. All the happenings at the clinic are also open to the advice, but not supervision, of the Tree of Life Mission Council.
Tree of Life Immigration Legal Aid Clinic is funded through a combinations of grants, client fees and charitable giving. We guarantee at least $500 per month for the first 30 hours of work (7 hours per week). We pay $16 per hour for all additional hours up to 40 hours per week. Regular church attendance is not part of paid hours.
